Hi, I'm Tim Scanlin. I'm a music lifer, with over 20 years in the industry, wearing almost every hat imaginable. Here's the 60-second story:​​

  • Grew up skating and going to punk shows in Long Beach, California.

  • Graduated from Berkeley (Art History) and stayed there. 

  • Worked in a record store for 3 years. Learned about Beethoven, Beefheart, Bambaataa, and everything in between.

  • Founded and published a nationally-distributed music magazine called SnackCake! for 5 yearsmanaging a volunteer staff of 20.

  • Started a band that released 5 albums on various established indies and toured everywhere over the next 10 years. 

  • Spent 3 years as a staff editor at MTV News Online, then as a full-time music journalist, freelancing for a variety of national outlets. 

  • Moved back to L.A.

  • Assisted music supervisor G. Marq Roswell and learned the ropes of supervision and clearance. 

  • Spent 3 years as Director of A&R at Rhino/Warner Music Group working on reissues, boxed sets and best-ofs for Black Sabbath, Ramones, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Yes, Joy Division and many others. 

  • Co-founded Brandracket with Chris Parker to bring artist-brand collabs into the 21st century. As both biz dev lead and music supervisor, did music strategy, supervision and clearance across every type of media for some of the biggest lifestyle brands in the world, including United Airlines, Patagonia, Activision/Blizzard, Quiksilver, Under Armour, Gucci and others. 

  • Started consulting for legacy artist management firm Jampol Artist Management (The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin)

  • Started Ten Divisions (March, 2022)

I live in scenic Altadena, California with my wife, two sons, six guitars, two cats, and a commercial-grade espresso machine.
